I am a music specialist and the music I write is original, tested on children and for the less confident teacher. My aim is to provide you with everything you need to fulfil Topic requirements and those of the National Curriculum (without having to prepare anything.) I provide Power Points/videos and give you mp3s and lyrics. Notation is sometimes given. The instrumental parts are dead easy!

Hop into a movie with the ants from a' Bugs Life'

This is a useful little video that I have edited. It's from 'It&'s a bugs life ' The ants collect food and later celebrate . The video explores each aspect, the lifting, throwing, carrying, marching ,flying etc. I&';m using it for movement, but you could use it for Harvest festival, literacy , poetry etc . We are using it in our mini beasts topic. Children can make props for their foraging. We drew fruit and cut it out. We staggered under the weight and deposited the 'fruit' on our 'mountain '

This really worked. The children were quiet, focused and intent on listening. Updated 18th Nov. Previous download did not hide the images. sorry.

This PowerPoint explores through music and dance the trophies that we have in school. It then looks at winning trophies at the Olympics.and moving to the music. Sound files are embedded, and will not play until PowerPoint is fully open. I would appreciate feedback as I have written and recorded the songs myself.

Music and movement/penguins/friendship

I have used these resources after reading the book "Lost and found" by Oliver Jeffers. The film is edited highlights of the way a penguin moves. I wrote the music to follow those movements. The children can add instruments to it for added effect( e.g. A guiro (scraper) I have put more resources in the premium section, (an animated song with instrumental parts for the non specialist and an art worksheet. These all fit with the Friendship/Sea theme. https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/a-song-about-friendship-with-percussion-parts-non-specialist-11059683

Activities to complement the Nativity play

A finished picture is shown and then a picture which is incomplete. The children have to say what is missing and create a completed one. I say that they were photocopied incorrectly and I need their help to make completed pictures. The first one introduces the idea of audience. From then on the pictures depict various scenes from the Nativity and they are treated in a similar vein . Good for discussion and creative impulses.
Fun with phonics . The ch digraph. Charlie the dinosaur

Fun with phonics . The ch digraph. Charlie the dinosaur

A silly song to introduce the digraph “ch”. Charlie only eats food that begins with “ch”. The words chips, chops and cheese are used. Then when children have learned the song, they can substitute those words for other “ch” words. E.g Chicken, chives, chard, cherries, chili, chocolate, chick peas. “Charlie the dinosaur had a chicken for lunch.” They could go really silly and find non-food words for Charlie to eat .E.g “Charlie the dinosaur had a child for lunch” etc. Resource includes 1. A PPT of the song should you wish to add to it. 2. A video of the song 3. An mp3 of the song 4. A worksheet to colour Charlie and" feed him" with ch digraphs. (Publisher) 5. The lyrics

Fun with phonics and music. trigraph “air” song and percussion

(0)
A creative way of introducing the trigraph “air” Children love this song and get quite self-righteous because someone has taken their chair! There is a very simple part for the claves (or any untuned instruments) and for differentiation a simple part for chime bars with the notes written underneath the music. Musically you can extend this as far as you feel comfortable or just sing and clap in the instrumental Resources include PPT (should you wish to edit) Music sheet Video 2 mp3s vocals and backing

The sunflowers. Poetry. Cross curricular, Creative worksheets. Section seven.

Suitable Ages 6 -8 The presentation is in A4 size, so the worksheets can be printed directly from the PowerPoint. I have included a free song from the musical “The Sunflowers” which could be a starting point. There are 10 different areas in the Sunflower Project. The one here concentrates on poetry. Rhyming words, opposites and comprehension are used in humorous poetry to encourage the child to write their own creations. The sheets can be trimmed easily by the child so that they can be pasted into an A4 booklet. The sunflower Project starts with the sowing of the sunflower seed and follows the observation through until Harvest. Each resource covers a curriculum area. The assumption is that natural science knowledge is absorbed through these various activities.

Fun with phonics. Song and movement. The “sh” digraph

(0)
The song used the words, shark, shore, and shell. It is to reinforce the digraph you have taught in the day or to introduce it. Musically, the song has short musical interludes. The child is encouraged to move the arms downwards as the music and illustrations move downwards too. (Beginnings of pitch) The worksheet uses the illustrations from the song to colour and add the words shark, shell, or just the digraph. In the resource, you will find 1 A PPT in case you wish to add your own ideas 2 A video of the song 3 A worksheet (Publisher and a photo of this in case you don’t have publisher) 4 An mp3 of the song 5 The lyrics

Fun with phonics and music. Trigraph “ear”. Song and percussion

The trigraph “ear” is promoted in this song. The children have to listen out for the maracas and then play along. It’s about a man whose beard is so long that the birds decide to nest there. Included in the resource is 1. A video of the song 2. A PPT of the song should you wish to add to it. 3. 2 mp3s a vocal and backing track 4. Separate lyrics and guitar chords.

The idea is - you tell the children you have been given a recording by your friend. He was sitting on the cliff one night, when he heard a strange sound. He recorded it on his phone but can’t understand what the voice is saying. You give out large pieces of paper to groups of 4. Ask them to listen and try and decipher the recording. They will surprise you with their ingenuity! Then next lesson, you play a version of the recording that you have cleaned up on the computer. Is it clearer? What course of action can you take now? Enclosed are the lesson plans for Art, ICT, drama, music and song writing plus the 2 soundscapes. (The sea, an ethereal sound and a disguised voice) This would make a very interesting children’s Assembly piece.
